Bali Go Green

Bali, more than just a glorious travel destination.

Bali supports more than 3.1 milion residents and estimated 5.4 milion travelers this year, alone. This proves to be tiring on the infrastucture and the precious natural resources of this beatiful island. For most people, this is a huge challenge: as we take planes, use automobiles and motor bikes, have/buy/export wood furniture and accessories, use plastic in bottles or bags, have swiming pools, eat imported foods, travel long distances and throw away all sorts of garbage and rubbish. Looking for innovative ways to meet these challenges is paramount, while being cognizant of the economic, social and cultural realities we face.

Join the project to preserve the islands natural resources by giving responsible hotels, tours, shops, organizations and individuals your business. Commit to being carbon neutral and make a differences in the world and Bali! Visit or live in Bali with more respect for the environment and the people, and help keep Bali beautiful for generations to come!

BALI CLEAN AND GREEN PROVINCE PROGRAM

The Background

Follow-up of the GOI's commitment to reduce carbon emissions 26% at the year 2020, Bali Provincial Government together with the District of Bali, private sector, NGOs, Village leaders, schools, universities and all community members launched a program namely Bali Green Province. Bali Green and Clean Program declared by the Governor of Bali Province on 22 February 2010 to coincide with the opening of UNEP's 11th Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali. On July 20, 2010 has been conducted workshops by involving various components of society, to discuss the road map to the Bali Green Province.

The goal

Bali Clean and Green Program is the commitment of the Bali Provincial Government and all components of the Balinese people, with all its resources and efforts to realize the island of Bali a clean, healthy, comfortable, sustainable and beautiful for present and future generations towards the achievement of Bali, an advanced, secure, peaceful and prosperous.

The Vision

The creation of Bali's environment clean, healthy, comfortable, sustainable and beautiful.

The Mission

1. Increasing awareness and concern of society in environmental conservation Area Bali;

2. Realizing that economic development and environmentally sustainable;

3. Creating a clean environment, healthy, comfortable, sustainable and beautiful.

The Policy of Government

Encourage community participation through formal education, informal and non formal education;
Joint efforts and synergy (partnerships) with private components / entrepreneur in suppressing pollution and environmental destruction;
Enhance cooperation with all community members through a variety of real activity (movement) in Bali create a clean, healthy, comfortable, sustainable and beautiful.

The Strategy

Green Culture

Green Culture: To preserve and develop cultural values (indigenous), the environmental, including various religious activities either small, medium and large based on TRI HITA KARANA ( harmony with GOD, community, and the environment).

Green Economy: To brought Bali Regional economy that is able to improve the welfare of society, while still preserve the environmental functions for today's generation and to the future

Clean and Green : To achieve all the region of Bali be clean and green, so it can be free from contamination and damage to natural resources

The Target

1.Green Culture

  • Development of environment-based curriculum
  • Requires each school / college to do waste management which includes sorting, composting and
    distribution of plastic waste / inorganic.
  • Encourage the development of environmentally friendly appropriate technology.
  • To encourage every household to manage waste with 3-R system.
  • Encourage each village manage waste from ceremonies/ritual activities.
  • Encourage each temple / sacred area providing sanitation facilities.
  • Developing various kinds of plants ceremony.
  • Encourage each village communities perform waste management
    in their respective territories.
  • Develop pilot environmental management through environmentally sound village
  • Exploring local knowledge in environmental conservation.
  • Improving the management of environmental campaign through various media.
  • Provide rewards for the community care environment.

2.Green Economy

  • Requiring every business and / or activities to manage its waste through segregation, composting and distribution of plastic waste / inorganic.
  • Prohibit any business and / or dispose of liquid waste into the environment
    without any treatment.
  • Requires that every motor vehicle dealers contribute to improvement
    air quality.
  • Requiring every business and / or activities to make efforts
    in greening.
  • Requiring every business and / or activities promote a clean energy.
  • Encourage every business and / or activities to develop renewable energy (water, wind,
    solar, biomass).
  • Requiring every business and / or activities to manage the waste according to the provisions hazardous and heavy metals.
  • Requiring every business and / or activity to perform cleaner production (clean
    productivity).
  • Encourage every business and / or activity to perform the certification effort
    environmentally friendly.
  • Encourage every business and / or activities to make efforts in mitigation and
    adaptation to climate change impacts.

3.Clean and Green

  • Brought Bali free of plastic waste, 2013, through segregation, composting
    and distribution of waste plastic / inorganic.
  • Increasing land vegetation cover through reforestation and afforestation.
  • Preservation of the area around the lakes, reservoirs and springs.
  • The development program of the clean river.
  • Development of corporate performance rating program.
  • Marine and coastal sustainable development (ICM).
  • Development of clean port.
  • Development / conservation of rare flora and fauna.
  • Increased rain water catchment areas through absorption wells (biopori)
  • Expansion of green open space.
  • Structuring and expansion of drainage systems.
  • Optimization of environmental instruments (AMDAL, UKL-UPL and SPPL).

The constraint

1. The low participation of community and business in waste management and waste caused by the limitations of existing facilities for waste management;

2. Low implementation of environmentally friendly technologies by business actors;

3. The limited human resources in disseminating government programs in the environmental sector;

4. Limited funding and human resources in pollution control and environmental destruction.
